The 22nd and 23rd of September 2016 sees The Suzy Lamplugh House host the Train the Trainer course; an efficient and cost effective way of delivering personal safety training.

On the back of The Suzy Lamplugh Trust marking its 30th Anniversary it’s important to remember just why it’s so significant we continue to support such an important cause.

Suzy disappeared, while working alone, in July 1986 and shortly after The Suzy Lamplugh Trust was formed. Since then the trust has worked tirelessly to keep people safe from violence and aggression and to offer counselling and support to the relatives and friends of missing people.

Throughout its 30-year existence the trust has been helping and supporting people by delivering free safety tips and managing the National Stalking Helpline. It has also been at the forefront of education: training individuals and organisations in personal safety via open access courses, publishing guidance, and providing workplace support and consultancy. As well as this The Suzy Lamplugh Trust has been working in partnership with other charities, private, and statutory organisations, to raise awareness and influence policy makers.

Along with setting up the National Stalking Helpline some of the key milestones achieved by the charity include: campaigning for private hire vehicle licensing in London and being instrumental in bringing about the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

It’s well known that attending a Suzy Lamplugh Trust event was pivotal in the formation of SoloProtect and the creation of the SoloProtect Identicom.

‘The Suzy Lamplugh Trust has always been a cause close to my heart since attending one of their events in 2002 and first hitting on the idea for the original Identicom Lone Worker Device. Now, over a decade later, our cause remains the same – helping others to improve their personal safety, and particularly for SoloProtect, when they happen to be working alone - as Suzy was.’

In 2015, SoloProtect moved to a brand new, UK HQ, incorporating a purpose built Alarm Receiving Centre, which is located at Suzy Lamplugh House in Sheffield. The Trust use the venue to deliver personal safety training to clients located in the north of the UK.
Their mission is to campaign, educate and support in order to help people reduce the risk of violence and aggression for all; and SoloProtect lend its support in helping elevate the increasingly important topic of personal safety.

As a key factor in the formation of SoloProtect, and as our nominated charity, The Suzy Lamplugh Trust will always be special to us. But it’s the many hours of work they do raising awareness, supporting vulnerable people, educating and training the public and campaigning for change, that makes them truly special. Out of something very tragic a legacy was born and the 30-year anniversary of Suzy’s disappearance has been a solemn and timely reminder.

On the 22nd & 23rd September 2016 The Suzy Lamplugh House will be the host for the upcoming Train the Trainer Course; this 2-day course is an efficient and cost effective way of delivering personal safety training, throughout an organization, by providing you with the skills, knowledge, resources and materials to plan, deliver and evaluate appropriate training for your target groups.

The Trust continues to work to improve safety for all workers through education, support and campaigning.
